Barry Thalden
AIA, FASLA-Partner
Barry Thalden has over 37 years of experience as an architect and an artist, and specializes in the design of hotels and casinos. Based in the Las Vegas office, Barry works with many of the major casino and hotel owners. He has worked with outstanding companies both in gaming and in hotel and resorts including Hyatt, Marriot, MGM Mirage, Holiday Inns Worldwide, Radisson, Caesar’s, Harrah’s,Players International, Hilton and Donald Trump. He has been moderator and keynote speaker at national conventions held throughout North America, as well as the author of articles published in the gaming and resort industry’s leading magazines. He has been honored by being listed in “ Who’s who in America” and “ Who’s who in the World” in recognition of his work.
Chief Boyd
AIA - Partner
Chief Boyd has extensive experience in a variety of native American projects beginning in 1963 with the Cherokee Cultural Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Chief has worked with 45 tribes across the country and is one of the most well known native American architects. He is the official architect to the Cherokee national Historical Society and has held that position since 1964. Chief has been actively involved with his tribe(Cherokee) for over 41 years and is presently the Secretary of the cherokee national Historical Society.
Rich Emery
NCARB - Partner
Richard Emery, NCARB, is president of the firm. After earning his architecture degree from Kansas University, He joined the company in 1982 and leads Design and Production for all projects in the office. His design talent has inspired the firm in its design of award winning projects throughout the years. In the past 26 years, Rich has designed hotels and casinos in gaming markets throughout North American and overseas. His design talent has inspired the firm to create designs of award winning projects throughout the years. Aside from his vast knowledge in casino and resort design, Rich has been at the cutting edge of CADD technology and Building Information Modeling (BIM). With his extensive experience in fast-track and phasing, Rich has designed projects collectively worth over several billion dollars.
Brett Ewing
AIA - LV Partner
Currently based out of the Las Vegas office, Brett Ewing has over 25 years of experience in the gaming, hospitality and entertainment industry.Prior to joining Thalden Boyd Emery Architects, Brett served as President of Architecture and Interior Design for Marnell Corrao Associates for over seven years and has worked on impressive projects on the Las Vegas Strip.
Linda Roe
Vice President Business Development
Linda J. Roe is Vice President of Business Development & Client Relations and responsible for establishing and maintaining client relationships, and insuring effective communications throughout the project. Her years of membership in the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) includes many legislative visits to Capitol Hill lobbying on behalf of tribes for Tribal Sovereignty. Based in Phoenix, Linda has over 35 years of architectural firm experience and over 20 years working with clients in the gaming industry.
David Nejelski
Director of Design
David received his Bachelor of Architecture from Kansas State University. He came to the firm as a Jr. Designer working under the direction of Rich Emery, and is now the Director of Design. In his past 15 years with the firm, David has designed hotels and casinos in many of the gaming markets throughout the United States and Canada. Much of his work has focused on unique theme and entertainment concepts from inception through development. David has designed projects worth $400M.
Nick Schoenfeldt
Vice President
Nick graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Architecture. Throughout his career, he has specialized in hotel design. He built a vast portfolio of projects including restaurants and casinos. His background with design-build experience enables him to synthesize the furniture, finishes and architectural elements into a cohesive whole. Prior to joining Thalden-Emery Architects, he worked with the former owner of the Adam’s Mark Hotel chain. He has successfully led more than 20 casino/hotel projects in the last 10 years.
Joe Wilkinson
NCARB - Senior Project Manager
Joe Wilkinson has been involved in the Architectural community in Tulsa for over 32 years, gaining a reputation for production and technical expertise on projects ranging from single-family residence to high-rise and institutional.
His passion for CAD began in 1983 as Joe became immersed in the process and techniques of software development for CAD systems. From this interest came an appreciation for the successful implementation of computers into the work place, and the desire to see that process simplified and accelerated. The maximizing of computer systems to provide high quality projects remains his focus.
Dave Collins
ASLA - Landscape Architect
Dave is a registered Landscape Architect. In his 25 years working for Thalden-Emery Architects, he has collaborated on a wide range of projects including commercial/retail development, hotels, casinos, resorts, and recreational facilities. He has been involved in casino and hotel projects located throughout the United States and abroad, and in all stages of project development – from master planning, to design, on through construction.
HK Patel
NCARB - Director of Production
HK has a Masters Degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a registered architect in Missouri and Illinois and has national certification thru the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Over the past 25 years, HK has successfully completed many challenging projects in the hospitality industry as a project architect/manager.
Suzanne Bedwell
NCARB - Project Architect
Suzanne Bedwell is a registered Architect in the State of Oklahoma, and has a National Council of Architecture Board Certification.
Over the years, Suzanne has worked on a broad range of building types including casinos, hotel / conference centers, office buildings, multi-use complexes,
educational, entertainment, dining and religious facilities. With each new project, Suzanne enjoys the challenge of producing unique design solutions which respond to the client’s goals and expectations. She is committed to quality professional service.
In the early 1990’s, Suzanne spent several years in London, England. While living abroad, she worked on numerous commercial projects in and around London and on a multi-use office complex in the Netherlands.
Alicia Nicolay
NCIDQ, Director of Interior Designer
Alicia’s experience over the past 11 years includes hotel design, restaurant design, casino design, and design of various pre-function and ballroom spaces. For the past nine years, Alicia has been a part of the Thalden Boyd Emery Design Team. Her eye for design and color makes her an asset for every project.
Cheryl Nervez
Director of Marketing & Media
Cheryl’s responsibility involves significant collaboration with executive management, managing multidisciplinary proposal efforts and maintaining Thalden Boyd Emery Architects’ high standard of work quality.
Cheryl is originally from San Francisco and has 13 years of marketing and public relations experience. Cheryl earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Sonoma State University. There, she double majored in Psychology and American Multi-Cultural Studies. Her recent travels have led her to start her Master’s Thesis in Tribal Psychology.
Cheryl is a member of Public Relations Society of America Las Vegas Chapter, Society of Marketing Professionals and the National Association of Women in Construction.
